ABOUT US

The Afrodescendant Union (ADU) is Afrodescendants working together within a framework that fosters cooperation, collaboration, and solidarity.

WHAT IS AN AFRODESCENDANT?

The term Afrodescendant refers to the “descendants of the African victims of the Trans-Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea slave trade. The group includes those of the Sub-Sahara slave trade”, as defined by the United Nations Working Group on People of African Descent.

OUR MISSION

RIGHT OF SELF-DETERMINATION

The Afrodescendant Union exists to promote unity, solidarity, and cooperation among Afrodescendant organizations worldwide, advocate for the rights and interests of Afrodescendants, and work towards the socioeconomic empowerment and cultural preservation of Afrodescendant communities via the right of self-determination and the political status that right effects.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL

STANDING ON LAW

Whatever actions the ADU takes, advocates, or supports are according to international legal standards .

BOLD INDEPENDENCE

The ADU does not advocate waiting on the government, UN or any entity to achieve the rights that we have a responsibility to assert.

PEOPLE POWERED

The ADU is not controlled by the decisions of individuals in leadership who can be compromised by fear and corruption.

CURRENT INITIATIVES

Current initiatives of the ADU and its associated members include the United States Afrodescendants independence vote and the regional reparations movement.

Reparations

Organizations such as the Afrodescendant Nation, initiated by Silis Muhammad, have been playing key roles in the struggle for reparations which we intend to finalize soon. ADU advocates for achieving what the United Nations has defined as reparations which exceeds money.

SELF-DETERMINATION

The "right of self-determination" is central to the Afrodescendant attainment of justice. By asserting this fundamental human right, Afrodescendants will be empowered to correct all issues. The ADU works to bring massive awareness of this right.

REFERENDUMS

A referendum for independence is the simple action it takes to attain control of our communities and power over our own affairs. We are hosting a national referendum as well as in places such as Detroit, Jackson, Mississippi and Athens, Georgia.

WHAT IS SELF-DETERMINATION

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states: "All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development." Via this right, Afrodescendants can become independently self-governing where we live and in control of territorial assets. Asserting the right of self-determination represents the only guaranteed way that Afrodescendants can end the perpetual injustice and poverty that comes from being minority subjects within a racist democratic system. Asserting the right of self-determination instantly puts power in the hands of Afrodescendants.

Economic Development

It is necessary for Afrodescendants to have economic power. That power can only be attained within an independent political system established from asserting the right of self-determination.

Social Development

Society has become dysfunctional because its development has been controlled by those who wish to maintain an unsustainable model of competition for resources. This is contrary to ancient African social norms. To survive, Afrodescendants must seize control of social development.

Cultural Development

Afrodescendants were culturally robbed with the conquering by Europeans. Now any attempt at creating a subculture and its expressions end up being controlled by our political and economic masters.

AFRO-VOTE

According to the Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations: "The establishment of a sovereign and independent State, the free association or integration with an independent State or the emergence into any other political status freely determined by a people constitute modes of implementing the right of self-determination by that people."

The above internationally accepted legal methods gives Afrodescendants the freedom to establish any political situation if it is the popular will of the community. That popular will is commonly expressed through a vote but any means of expression is lawful including mass demonstrations.
